A Celebration of the Life and Ministry of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This year there will be multiple opportunities for both reflection and action as we celebrate together the work and witness of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Mark your calendars now and join us for all or some of them!

Sunday, January 15

9:00 and 11:15 a.m. Services
We welcome guest preacher the Reverend Delonte Gholston — committed to using his passion for art, theology, and social change to bring life and flourishing both to cities and to rural areas. This passion fuels his work with the Downtown LA Clergy Council where he serves as the Director of the Trust Talks, a new approach to trust building and community transformation between the LAPD, housing and public health service providers, activists, loft dwellers, business owners, the un-housed, and other key stakeholders in Downtown LA. He currently serves as a Pastor for Children and Youth at New City Church of Los Angeles. Canterbury Choir and Rhythm Section offer Lift Him Up! by Smith, with soloist Elizabeth Tatum and MLK by U2, arr. by Chilcott, with soloist Stephen McDonough.

10:15 a.m. Rector’s Forum: “Dream Deferred: The Movement for Black Lives Today”
Join us in the Rector’s Forum to be both informed and inspired by a stellar panel of prophetic young leaders as we look back on the work and witness of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and look ahead to the challenges and opportunities in the New Year. Four local young activists discuss the state of the Movement for Black Lives in Pasadena today, and what the church can do truly to make Dr. King’s dream a reality. Joining us will be Delonte Gholston (New City Church, Los Angeles), Jasmine Abullah (BLM Pasadena), Andre Henry (originator of “Subversive Liturgies” at the Pasadena Police Department), and Jeanelle Austin (Fuller Seminary). In the Forum.
