All Saints Church commends the City of Pasadena for commemorating National Gun Violence Awareness Day on June 2. On this day we will join millions of Americans in committing to end gun violence in America. And we will wear orange – symbolizing the value of human life.

#WearOrangeJust as hunters wear orange in the woods to protect themselves and others from gunfire – so will we – while also expressing our support for common sense gun solutions that will save lives and make our community safe and healthy for all people.

Partners in this action include: The Brady Campaign; Mayor’s Against Illegal Guns; Moms Demand Action; Newtown Action Alliance; Sandy Hook Promise; Women Against Gun Violence; the YWCA and our own Bishops Against Gun Violence.

City of Pasadena Proclamation

Whereas gun violence touches every segment of our society and impacts people of all ages; it increases the probability of death in incidents of domestic violence; raises the likelihood of fatalities by those who intend to injure others, and among those who attempt suicide; it places children and young people at increased risk of physical harm and injury; and disproportionately affects communities of color; and

Whereas Gun Violence Awareness Day was created to honor the many lives that have been cut short by gun violence in our country and to support efforts to reduce gun-related crimes in the United States; and

Whereas it is important to recognize community organizations which assist families that have been directly impacted by gun violence and provide a continuum of care to grieving parents or spouses who must continue to provide for surviving family members; and

Whereas the City supports continued statewide efforts to strengthen gun safety laws and educate the community on safe gun storage; and

Whereas it is appropriate to set aside a day to honor those Americans whose lives are cut short each year by gun violence, and the countless survivors whose lives are forever altered;

Now, Therefore I, Terry Tornek, Mayor of the City of Pasadena, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim June 2, 2016 in Pasadena as Gun Violence Awareness Day and urge all citizens, businesses, organizations, and agencies to work collaboratively to reduce gun violence in our community.

Dated this 16th day of May, 2016

On June 2nd under the leadership of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, All Saints will also recognize the day alongside our thousands of parish members. Please stop at the Action Table on Sunday, May 29 to get an orange ribbon, and also to take action on two important state gun-related bills: one that would limit the sales of long guns to one per month in order to reduce trafficking and stockpiling, and another that would regulate ammunition sales through background checks.

And then on June 2nd [1] wear orange and [2] take and post your picture with the hashtags #WearOrange and #AllSaintsWearsOrange on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to make our voices heard.
