From Rector Ed Bacon:

tid197_capcamlogoblast_42556622_f760_99bb_u1On Tuesday, May 13, we received final approval for the design of our Master Plan from Pasadena’s Design Commission. A vote of 6-0, with one abstention, gave a green light to proceed to the implementation phase of our building project. It is a moment to rejoice and be glad in!

From the beginning this project has been about mission: the mission of All Saints Church. It was born out of the dream of building instruments for more worship, contemplation, education, transformative conversation, and, most of all, service to those members of the human family who are most vulnerable.

We began the journey toward building those instruments for mission with a list of ministries we dreamed of but could not accommodate in our current space. We considered the long list of requests from so many important partners in the city who wanted to use our buildings for their good work but which we could not accommodate because of limited space. We reviewed the wise counsel of Don Baker’s space study committee which had recommended this program 10 years ago.

After receiving the report from the space study committee, the Vestry chose Michael Palladino of Richard Meier Partners as our design architect. Our fundraising consultants affirmed in their feasibility study that, if we stretched, we could raise the needed funds. And eight years ago I gave our architects their first tour of our current buildings, pointing out their limits for our growing ministries.

After countless meetings, hearings, consultations, revisions and updates, our building project has been immeasurably strengthened and improved by the input from members of the congregation and the Pasadena community.

More information will be coming about the next steps and the work of shifting from design to implementation. But for the moment, I invite you to celebrate with me this significant milestone on the journey–and to join with me in thanking all those whose hard work and perseverance have brought us to this point.

Join me in gratitude for this accomplishment, which is the fruit of stellar leadership on the part of our current co-chairs, Liz Trussell and Bob Long, our first co-chairs, Elsie Sadler and Sam Muir, Don Baker and the space study committee, our team of All Saints leaders, advisors, and our fantastic owners’ representative, Randy Jefferson.

And then join me in the Rector’s Forum at 10:15 a.m. this Sunday, May 18, for a presentation of images of our new buildings from architect Jim Crawford, partner with Richard Meier Partners and a conversation about where we go from here, led by Liz Trussell and Bob Long.
