Description: The reading for February 24, 2023, Albert Camus, The Plague (1947). We’re recommending the Laura Marris translation, which dates from 2021, though some may stay with the Stuart Gilbert translation. Camus (1913–60) won the Nobel Prize for books of several sorts, before dying in a car crash. He was born in Algeria to parents of French descent, and this novel is set in Algeria. Not only is it about a plague, but it’s an allegory of France under the Nazis.
