California: Fearless, United!

Sunday, December 18

All Saints Church is proud to be a co-sponsor of the December 18th California: Fearless, United Rally & March. Standing together as immigrant, environmental, faith, labor, LGBT, and women’s rights groups in the heart of Los Angeles — one of the most diverse cities in the world — we will put our faith into action as we continue in the work of turning the human race into the human family.

This past election cycle was filled with hate speech directed towards immigrants, Muslims, workers and women in attempt to divide our communities. That strategy may have won the election, but together we will peacefully stand up against this type of hate and march for unity and solidarity. California has made great strides in moving us forward in breaking down the barriers that divide us and have obstructed opportunities for everyone. From our great State, we say ¡Ya Basta!, We will not be divided anymore. Will you stand with us too?

Event Details

Date: Sunday, December 18, 2016
Time: 12:00 p.m. – unknown

Location – Start: Pershing Square, 532 South Olive Street, Los Angeles

From Pershing Square we will march through the streets of Downtown LA and go to Grand Park in front of LA City Hall. There will be several stops along the way:

○ Stop at 5th/Spring St.
○ Stop at 4th/Spring St.
○ Stop at 3rd/Spring St.

Location – End: Grand Park, 200 N. Grand Ave., Los Angeles.

Those from All Saints wishing to attend should plan on going to the 9 am Service on Sunday 12/18. You may:

1) Meet with others from All Saints and travel by Gold Line into Downtown LA.

Please note: this travel plan includes a lot of walking (about 2 miles of walking in total)! Also, while we will try our best to stay as a group, we cannot promise to be able to keep the group together for the entirety of the march. If you somehow get separated from the group, you must be able to get yourself back to Pasadena.

We will gather in the North Driveway of the All Saints campus (in front of the OCC trailer) at 10:30 am. We will then walk to the local Gold Line station located at Memorial Park in Pasadena. Fare for the Gold Line ride is $1.75 (one way) and you must purchase a TAP card for an additional $1.00 if you don’t already own one. When we arrive at Union Station, we will transfer to the Metro Red Line which will take us to the Pershing Square Station, directly across the street from Pershing Square, where the march will begin. We will walk several blocks, making a few stops along the way, to where Grand Park meets the South Steps of LA City Hall. Whether or not the rally has officially ended, we will meet at 2:30 pm at the Metro Red Line Civic Center Station at Grand Park and return to Union Station where we will connect with the Gold Line to bring us back to the Memorial Park Station. We estimate that we will be back in Pasadena at around 3:30 pm.

Please do the following if you joining others using public transportation:
1. Wear comfortable walking shoes
2. Wear warm clothes (it is supposed to be a cool afternoon)
3. Bring water and some snacks that are easy to hold/carry (there will not be time for a lunch break)
4. Bring your fully charged cell phone in case you need it
5. Bring money for the Metro fare and anything else you may need to purchase along the way
6. Bring your TAP card (if you already have one)
7. Bring signs (if you have one/some)

2) Travel to Pershing Square (start of march) on your own (or arrange your own carpool) and park at the facility located under Pershing Square. Drive the 110 Freeway toward Downtown Los Angeles and exit 6th Street. Parking is approx. $10 if entering before 11 am and $16 daily. There are also several parking lots/structures near bye with various rates. Note that metered street parking is available and is closely monitored by parking enforcement!

3) Travel to Grand Park (end of march and rally location) on your own (or arrange your own carpool) and park in Lot 10 on N. Broadway between First Street and Temple Street. Parking lot address is 145 N. Broadway, Los Angeles with entrances on Broadway and on Hill St. The Lot 10 parking rate is $3.50 per 15 minutes, or $20.00 maximum per day, and $10.00 per day for weekends, evenings and special events.

Guiding Principles of the March

We are strongest when we are united. We are more effective when we lift up the universal values of peace, love and prosperity.

We stand in opposition to division and hate. For this reason, our most vulnerable communities will not be left behind. We will support one another.

We will fight back to protect our constitutional and civil rights. We march because it is our right to do so.

We will hold our elected officials accountable. If they give in, we lose. We ask that they march with us that they remember that over 9 million people voted against hate in California.

We will do everything in our power to safeguard our future, and the future generations that will  come after us.
