Charleen was born in Alabama and raised in South Florida. In 2010 she moved to Pasadena from Grand Rapids, MI to accept a job at Huntington Hospital Senior Care Network as a Social Work Supervisor. For the past 20 years, Charleen has worked in acute behavioral health hospitals and has specialized in mental health care. She was ordained as an Episcopal Deacon in Hawaii in 1986 and has served at All Saints since being assigned by Bishop Bruno as parish Deacon in 2011.

She received her BA and her MSW from the University of Hawaii and attended the then newly formed pilot program of Hawaii School for Deacons. She served as Chaplain at Iolani school in Hawaii and worked on the Diocesan Clergy Wellness Committee and the committee on Institutional Racism. In 1996 she moved to Grand Rapids, MI where she served on the Commission on Ministry, Standing Committee, and served on the team that formed the Oakerhater School for Deacons, and the Deacon’s Council. She also was one of the Examining Chaplains for Deacons in addition to serving several parishes. She was assigned to a new church plant where she work with laity building a large outreach program.

Currently she serves on the Los Angeles Diocesan Commission for Ministry and on the newly formed Deacons’ Council. Charleen also co-facilitates the Deacons’ Fresh Start group. She also serves on the Board of the Bishop Gooden Center. In her role at All Saints, she is serving with occasional assigned duties with the leadership of the Peace & Justice team.

She is married to The Rev. John Crean. They share 5 children and 5 grandchildren.
