Featured Ministry: Accessibility Ministry

Each week we feature one ministry from the many that make up the work and witness of All Saints Church … and this week we feature the Accessibility Ministry, and a story of how it helped parishioner Cy Warren Estabrook:

In December 2015 I had a bad slip and fall, which resulted in a spinal cord injury to my T11/T12 vertebrae. As a result I was paralyzed from the waste down and had very little feeling and use of my legs.

Whenever tragic events occur in life we can either decide to deal with it the best we can or allow it to overwhelm us. Thank goodness for my wife, family and my Faith, which helps me every day dealing with the realities of my disability.

We have attended All Saints Church off and on for several years, but now we feel more attached than ever before. I believe it is because my wife and I see a genuine love of inclusion that really touches our souls.

My wife and I met the chair of the Accessibility Ministry at their table, and she was very caring and informative. She invited us to the next Accessibility Meeting and at that meeting the Chairwoman of the Pasadena Accessibility and Disability Commission, Jennipha-Lauren Nielsen, was the guest speaker and she really spoke to my heart.

As a result, I attended the next Commission’s meeting where I was warmly welcomed. Jenny explained to me that all the district positions on the Commission were filled, but there is a mayoral representative position available if the Mayor chooses to fill it.

Shortly after I had a meeting with Mayor Terry Tornek, and we hit it off quite well. He asked me to be his representative on the Commission and I will be sworn in March 13th at 6:00 p.m. at the Pasadena City Council Meeting.

God is opening doors for me, and All Saints Church is a vital part of that.
