from Ed Bacon, Rector of All Saints Church

We join our heartbreak, outrage, and prayers with the victims, their family members, and friends of the senseless terrorist attacks in Paris tonight killing and wounding more than 150. This is an attack not just on Parisians but on us all and on the universal values of respecting the dignity of every human being.

We lift our voices uniting with sisters and brothers throughout the world condemning these horrid acts of violence against innocent members of the human family.

As the international community calls for accountability for the perpetrators it is important to acknowledge that these acts are designed to make the global community more violent, fearful, and intolerant toward difference. We will not allow these horrific acts to make us less human or tolerant; that is the terrorists’ desired outcome.

It is important to note that the current global migration crisis is the result of thousands of parents and children fleeing murderers like tonight’s perpetrators. It calls on all of us to have deepened compassion for refugees and all victims of war and violence. Tonight we all are Parisians. We all are refugees.

Holy God, Look with compassion on the whole  human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in  your good time, all nations and races may serve you in  harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ  our Lord. Amen
