On Sunday, April 10 our “Faith in Action” action on the lawn was signing letters to the California Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee supporting a bill that provides a bonus to developers who build housing that sets aside 10% for transitional foster youth.
(You can read the letter and find more info on the bill here.)

Yesterday we received the good news that the bill passed out of committee with a 6-1 vote. Assemblymember Chris Holden said in the Pasadena Now report: “I’m proud to author this bill as it came directly from a constituent, Jeannette Mann, who has been active in All Saints Church and the 41st Assembly District helping foster youth and the community at large.”

Juliana Serrano, our Senior Associate for Peace & Justice, reports that not only were 127 letters signed on Sunday, but Jeannette hand delivered them to Sacramento on Monday.

AB2442 still has a long journey to become the law in California, but when it does it will be in part because of those within the All Saints community who week after week put their faith into action through advocacy on public policy issues on the lawn. Every week we sow seeds of love, justice and compassion in the form of letters, petitions and online actions. And sometimes — like this week — we have the gift of seeing those actions bear immediate and tangible fruit.

And those moments are ones to rejoice and be glad in as we remember the Gospel According to Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

Be glad.
Take Action.
