Sacred Resistance Against Unjust Deportation Policies

In the 90 degree heat of an August afternoon, sacred resisters staged an action at the Los Angeles Hall of Justice protesting L.A. Sheriff Jim McDonnell’s support of unjust deportation policies being deployed by ICE (the Immigration & Customs Enforcement Agency).

The interfaith effort on Thursday, August 3rd highlighted the stories of those impacted by the escalation of deportations and of the appalling conditions at the Adelanto detainment facility where detainees are being held.

Participants included All Saints Rector Mike Kinman and former All Saints staff member Francisco Garcia — who is a co-chair of the Diocese of Los Angeles Sanctuary Task Force.

Holy God, we pray for our cities, our nation and all the nations of the world, that those who govern the people and have authority over them may consider each and every life to be of infinite value and may serve all people with equity and fairness, dedicating themselves to peaceful resolution of conflict and work to dismantle unjust systems of oppression. Amen.
