Every week at All Saints Church we put our faith into action. This week the focus of our action is environmental justice. We are joining the Center for Food Safety in petitioning the Environmental Protection Agency to evaluate and regulate seeds coated with pesticides.

These seeds are produced by chemical companies such as Monsanto with very little oversight by the EPA. Almost half of all US farmland is planted with seeds coated with neonicotinoid pesticides. The pesticide-coated seeds travel up a plant’s circulatory system as it grows and ends up in the leaves, pollen and nectar. This ends up poisoning pollinators such as bees and butterflies by impacting their central nervous systems and causing paralysis or even death. The pesticide coating also comes off the seeds contaminating soil, other plants and ground water. Just one seed can fatally poison a bird.

Please sign the petition to the Environmental Protection Agency.
