Every week at All Saints Church we put our faith into action. This week our focus is gun violence and the trauma it inflicts on victims and their families in Pasadena.

A recent Los Angeles Times article entitled For one Pasadena neighborhood, gun violence is unrelenting published on January 25, 2022, outlined the increase in shootings over the past few years, the trauma suffered by the victims and their families and the failure to connect them with the support services they need.

Pasadenans Organizing for Progress have requested that the City hire “a liaison to work with family members of victims of violent crimes to guide them through the paperwork process” to get available services and supports.  The lack of family services and support is not a problem. The problem is Pasadena does not seem to have a family liaison who can connect families to existing family services and supports after they have experienced the trauma of losing a loved one to gun violence. Trauma often prevents people from being able to successfully reach out to and engage in existing support and services. A helping hand and warm hand off is often what is needed after such a loss.

Therefore, this week we are writing the mayor and city council of Pasadena in support of the proposal to hire a liaison to victims of violence that would ensure that they get the supportive services that  they require.

Please sign a letter to Mayor Gordo and if you are a resident of Pasadena please add the name of your member of the city council.
