Every week at All Saints Church we put our faith into action. The focus of our action this week is the developing war between Israel and Hamas, and we are writing President Biden and our members of Congress calling them to engage their maximum efforts to de-escalate the violence in the Middle East.
Options to Take Action:
Here is an excerpt from the letter we will send to President Biden and our U.S. Senators and Representatives. Please sign it on Sunday and let’s raise our collective voice to shout “We need a ceasefire now!”:
As followers of the teachings and example of Jesus, we encourage our elected officials to embrace and amplify calls for action that will make a just and lasting peace, including an immediate cease fire and an end to plans for an Israeli ground invasion which would necessarily mean loss of many civilian lives.
This past week, the Al Ahli Hospital, which is overseen by the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, and located in Gaza City, was rocked by a second bombing with civilian deaths of over 500 people including women and children.
We ask that you publicly call for, and work with Israeli forces to create safe corridors for those seeking to move away from the fighting and safe zones for those who cannot or will not leave their homes. We are further asking you to work with international governments and aide organizations to bring much needed food, fuel, water, temporary shelters, and other vital supplies to those displaced people in Gaza. We hope that you agree that civilians should never be the targets of military action and the most important thing is to prevent more violence against innocent civilians.
