Sunday December 1st All Saints Church will mark World AIDS Day by welcoming author and long-time activist Pat Hoffman for Summoned and Shaped: Traveling Together Into Our Belovedness” — a memoir of her call to be with the AIDS-affected community and the story of her courageous work to change church attitudes toward the LGBTQ community.
Pat is a member of All Saints and is especially well-known for her years working in and writing about the farm worker movement (Ministry of the Dispossessed: Learning from the Farm Worker Movement, 1987). Later she championed a meaningful and spiritually compassionate response to AIDS (AIDS & the Sleeping Church, 1995). Her new book, Summoned and Shaped, is published by Wipf & Stock and will be available for purchase before and after her presentation.
Chris Glaser, author and LGBTQ activist wrote about Summoned and Shaped: “When the church equivocated in the early years of the AIDS crisis, Pat Hoffman boldly initiated a ministry with persons with AIDS, many of whom were wary of anything religious. This moving and poignant story of how her own life prepared her to gently join them on their journey may help all of us who serve the ‘spiritual but not religious.’”
Join us for what promises to be an inspiring, moving and challenging opportunity to hear Pat’s story and to explore how and where we are called to follow her example and we live out our faith in the world.
