All Saints Church Officially Welcomes Rector #10

The Reverend Mike Kinman has been with us since November 1, 2016 when he arrived from St. Louis to begin his tenure as the 10th Rector of All Saints Church. And on Monday, February 27th we threw the liturgical party celebrating that new chapter in our history.

Here’s how the Facebook invitation to the 7:30 p.m. service read:

So are you coming tonight? Are you going to join us as we welcome Mike Kinman as our 10th rector and get to hear the inimitable Becca Stevens preach one more time before she heads back to Nashville? Are you going to be with us for the debut of the anthem our Grammy Award winning composer Bill Cunliffe wrote for the occasion … using the text of one of Becca’s prayers?

Do you know that all are welcome and it’s a bilingual service with our bishop suffragan Diane Jardine Bruce celebrating … and that our brilliant youth choir is singing? And sign language interpretation? And gluten free communion wafers if you need them? And gender neutral bathrooms because whoever you are and wherever you find yourself there is a place for you here? And did you know there’s a March to Protect Pasadena Migrants that starts at the Pasadena Jobs Center on Lake at 4pm and ends up across the street at City Hall so you can come for the march and stay for the celebration?

It was a grand and glorious celebration. We will be archiving the entire service on You Tube for your viewing (or reviewing!) pleasure and also making Becca Stevens stirring sermon available on both You Tube and iTunes. But for the moment, here is a link to just a few photos to give you a sense of the joyful energy of a truly historic evening … which began with the prayer:

Everliving God, strengthen and sustain Mike, that with patience and understanding he may love and care for your people; and grant that together they may follow Jesus Christ, offering to you their gifts and talents; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
