ASC Action Alert: Health Care

The Senate is on the verge of voting to demolish health care for millions women, children, persons with disabilities, and many others. This is not health care reform — it is health care attack that is cruel, morally unjust and inhumane — and incompatible with our baptismal promise to respect the dignity of every human being.

Senators have created — behind closed doors with no transparency — their own version of the terrible American Health Care Act (AHCA) passed by the House of Representatives in early May … a bill that would rip away health coverage from 23 million Americans. The irreversible federal caps and funding cuts in Medicaid are still in the bill. Senate leadership plans to vote on a Senate health bill the week of June 30th before they leave town for the July 4th recess. Its unprecedented, irreversible cuts to Medicaid will end a more than 50 year guarantee of treatment. The result will be unnecessary death and suffering. It is urgent we act now!

We must continue to make our voices heard!  Let’s keep their phones ringing off the hook.  Call now and tell your senators to Stop. This. Bill.

Even if you’ve called before.
Even if you think you know how they’ll vote.
Even if you’re frustrated, discouraged, or exhausted from the fight to defend access to care.
CALL!

If you can’t get through because of all the calls, that’s good news! Call their district offices back home in California instead. Please get others to call too.

Senator Diane Fientsein’s Los Angeles Office: (310) 914-7300
Senator Kamala Harris’ Los Angeles Office: (213) 894-5000

Here is a sample script you can use when calling:

Hi, my name is __________, and I live in (state the city/zip code of residence).

I’m calling to ask my Senator to vote NO on the Senate Health Bill.

I’m counting on my Senator to do the right thing and stand up for children and women and others in desperate need of health services. Do not shred the safety net for millions of Americans. Nearly half of all those on Medicaid are children, including nearly five million children in California. Medicaid ensures coverage for 40 percent of all children with special health care needs and more than 40 percent of all births. They could all be harmed by the Senate bill. Low-income adults, adults with disabilities, and seniors are in great jeopardy too. Millions of people will be left without access to birth control, lifesaving cancer screenings, and other basic care. Many of them will have nowhere to go for the health care they need. I expect my Senator to vote against any attacks on these vital health services. Thank you for your time.

This really is it.  The Senate is our last hope to defeat this enormous, unprecedented threat to health care or it will become law. Together we can make a difference as we put our faith into action … one phone call at a time!
