August 19 Rector’s Forum: Beyoncé, the Beyoncé Mass, and Black Girl Magic

“What the world teaches us is that if we’re too angry, then we’re an angry black woman. If we cry too much then we’re overly emotional. When people tell me I’m an angry black woman my response is ‘thank you.’ I didn’t become angry out of nowhere, it didn’t just appear out of the ether. I’m angry for a reason and I own it. I’m not afraid of it just because it makes people nervous. I hope it makes them nervous. You make me angry, I’m gonna make you nervous, there we go.”

Presentation by Yolanda Norton in the Rector’s Forum at All Saints Church on Sunday, August 19, 2018.
