Friday July 26 — Fiction Fun! Reads Ross Macdonald’s The Zebra-Striped Hearse
7:00 p.m., Guild Room.

Ross Macdonald, The Zebra-Striped Hearse (1962). Ross Macdonald (1915–83) lived for many years in Santa Barbara, and Southern California is the setting of his characteristic novels, with Santa Barbara being called Santa Teresa. He’s an heir to the tradition of Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett. Paul Newman played Lew Archer in two films. In his works, as Anna Mundow said in 2017 the Wall Street Journal, “Southern California seems to shimmer on the page.”
