Jill Lepore has asked, in the New Yorker, “Is Mick Herron the Best Spy Novelist of His Generation?” She thinks maybe so, saying that among spy novelists, he’s “the best in a generation, by some estimations, and irrefutably the funniest.” Slow Horses is the first in a series of eight spy novels, lately adapted on Apple TV+.
