A message from All Saints Rector Mike Kinman, on this International Women’s Day, March 8, 2021:
As we head to our annual meeting on March 14, I am profoundly grateful for the leadership of our wardens and vestry for the past year. We will have a chance to recognize them at the meeting … and I want to particularly thank Juan Mejia for being an incredible senior warden and Monique Thomas for being an amazing junior warden through such a strange and challenging time.
Those terms are coming to an end. Juan will be staying on vestry to complete his term and will be stepping down as senior warden. The senior warden is chosen by the rector and the junior warden by the vestry – together with the rector, they share leadership of the vestry. I am thrilled to announce that Monique Thomas will be All Saints Church’s senior warden when the new vestry terms begin on April 1. Moving in as junior warden will be Julianne Hines.
Monique has been attending All Saints for 14 years and officially became a member in 2014. She has served as Co-Chair of the Racial Justice Ministry and Chair of the Peace & Justice Vestry Committee. Professionally, Monique is Program Coordinator at the Caltech Center for Inclusion & Diversity. She channels her work and passion for diversity and inclusion into all of her roles at All Saints. Monique also has a background in communications and performance studies. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, writing and performing. Monique is committed to serving the parishioners of All Saints and helping to turn the human race into the human family.
Julianne Hines has been part of the All Saints community for the past 8 years. She recently completed service as the Vice President of Community and Government Engagement at Planned Parenthood Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley and as the founding Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Advocates since it’s incorporation in 2015. Julianne has 17 years of experience in community organizing and government affairs, having previously served as the District Director for California Assemblymember Anthony Portantino and as a Field Representative for Assemblymember Carol Liu. She has a Master of Social Work Degree from the University of Southern California with a concentration in Community Organizing, Planning, and Administration, and a BA in Social Work from the California State University of Los Angeles. Julianne is a lifelong bookworm and lover of stories in all forms, and in non-pandemic times, loves to research and engage in travel to experience other places and cultures.
Please join me in thanking Juan for his service… and for congratulating Monique and Julianne and holding them in your prayers. See you at the annual meeting!
Al dirigirnos a nuestra reunión anual del 14 de marzo, estoy profundamente agradecido por el liderazgo de nuestros guardianes y la junta parroquial durante el último año. Tendremos la oportunidad de reconocerlos en la reunión… y quiero agradecer particularmente a Juan Mejía por ser una increíble guardián mayor y a Monique Thomas por ser una increíble guardián menor a través de un momento tan extraño y desafiante.
Esos términos están llegando a su fin. Juan se quedará en la junta parroquial para completar su mandato y dejará el cargo de guardián mayor. El guardián mayor es elegido por el rector y el guardián menor es elegido por la junta parroquial – junto con el rector, comparten el liderazgo de la junta parroquial. Me complace anunciar que Monique Thomas será la guardián mayor de la Iglesia de Todos los Santos cuando comiencen los nuevos términos de la junta parroquial el 1 de abril. Nuestra guardián menor será Julianne Hines.
Monique ha estado asistiendo a la Iglesia de Todos los Santos por 14 años y oficialmente se convirtió en miembro en el 2014. Tiene una Maestría en Trabajo Social de la Universidad del Sur de California con una concentración en Organización Comunitaria, Planificación y Administración, y una licenciatura en Trabajo Social de la Universidad Estatal de California de Los Ángeles. Julianne es una amante de libros y de las historias en todas las formas, y en tiempos no pandémicos, le encanta investigar y participar en viajes para experimentar otros lugares y culturas.
