On Sunday, February 4 we continue our first-ever Epiphany Preaching Series — “A Season of Wisdom and Revelation:”
At All Saints Church we are committed to dismantling the structures of patriarchy and white supremacy that enslave us all. An important step in that direction is centering the voices of women and people of color and following their wisdom and leadership. That is why we are declaring Epiphany, 2018 “A Season of Wisdom and Revelation” where we will only have women of color in our pulpit on Sunday mornings — January 7 – February 11 — and we will be shaped and led by the Gospel they preach.
This week we are delighted to welcome the pulpit:
Brinell Anderson — 7:30, 9:00 & 11:15 a.m.
Dr. Brinell Anderson, is a licensed clinical psychologist with an academic background in African-American studies as well as Community Psychology. Her professional interests and experiences include psychoanalytic psychotherapy; mindfulness meditation; the psychological impact of chronic medical illness; psychotherapy with persons of African-descent; and spiritual issues in psychotherapy. She is passionate about sharing her expertise in workshop presentations, especially on topics addressing cultural humility and privilege, healing from collective cultural trauma, and Black women’s wellness.
Lydia López — 1:00 p.m. [bilingual Spanish/English service]
Lydia López has been very active in social justice issues since the 1960s when she was part of the Chicano Movement, working along with César Chávez. In the 1990s she worked as part of the sanctuary movement, and the resettlement of refugees from Central America. She has served in several boards and commissions, including Planned Parenthood, the National Hispanic Commission of the Episcopal Church, the Episcopal Urban Caucus, and the Los Angeles 2000 Commission, among others. Lydia has been a lay leader in All Saints for more than 26 years, and she has a high profile in the national and international work of the Episcopal Church. In 2000 she was appointed Canon of the Diocese of Los Angeles by then Bishop Fred Borsch in recognition of her life-long work, and commitment to the work for justice with a focus on Latinos.
Lydia López ha sido activista en asuntos de justicia social desde la década de 1960 cuando ella era parte del Movimiento Chicano, trabajando junto con César Chávez. En la década de 1990 trabajó como parte del Movimiento Santuario y el reasentamiento de refugiados de América Central. Ella ha servido en varias juntas y comisiones, incluyendo Planned Parenthood, la Comisión Nacional Hispana de la Iglesia Episcopal, el Caucus Urbano Episcopal, y la Comisión Los Angeles 2000, entre otros. Lydia ha sido líder laica en Todos los Santos por más de 26 años, y tiene un alto perfil en el trabajo nacional e internacional de la Iglesia Episcopal.
