Faith in Action: December 13 – Congratulate Xavier Becerra

Every week at All Saints Church we put our faith into action. This week we are asking people to sign a letter to Xavier Becerra, the Attorney General of California, congratulating him on being selected by President-elect Biden to be the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

The United States faces many challenges that lie within the jurisdiction of Health and Human Services. We believe that the upper most of these challenges are:

  • Dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. We are encouraged so far by the appointments made by President-elect Biden covering the areas of public health. We fully support the Centers for Disease Control, the National Institutes of Health and other health agencies being restored and strengthened as swiftly as possible.
  • The Affordable Care Act has been under regulatory assault the past four years. We urge that regulatory changes be made that will reverse this damage and strengthen the ACA.
  • The separation of children from their parents when they were seeking admittance to the United States as refugees and the subsequent incarceration of those children has been a national disgrace and scandal. We urge that every effort be made to reunite these children with their parents as quickly as possible.
  • Homelessness and housing insecurity. There are many problems that people can face such as joblessness, mental and physical health conditions, drug addiction and other issues that can lead to homelessness, but the conundrum, as most social welfare professionals have come to agree, is that all of these problems become harder to deal with if the people confronting them don’t have a home. We must do all we can to end homelessness in the United States.

We urge Mr. Becerra to put these at the top of his priorities when he is confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services and wish him well in dealing with these and the other challenges that confront the Department of Health and Human Services.

Congratulate Xavier Becerra for His Selection as Secretary for Health & Human Services
