Faith in Action “Double Header:” June 28 – Racial Justice & Police Reform

Each week we put our Faith into Action at All Saints Church and this week we are raising our voices in support of two important initiatives: California Racial Justice Legislation and a Pasadena Community Bill of Rights

ACTION FOR ALL:

Please support a legislative package for the state of California backed by Equality California that aims to advance the cause of racial justice. The package includes 14 bills and 2 proposed constitutional amendments focused on voting rights and police, probation and criminal justice reform. They seek to: 1) End police brutality and anti-Black violence; 2) End the crisis of violence against transgender women of color; 3) Stop ICE from separating immigrant families and putting children in cages; 4) Prevent hate crimes against the API, Muslim and Jewish communities; 5) Puts a stop to the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women; 6) And finally, establish a task force to issue recommendations regarding reparations.

ACTION FOR RESIDENTS OF PASADENA:

George Floyd’s killing by Minneapolis police reminds us of Pasadena’s own need for police reform. Our city has its own list of recent victims of police abuse, including (but not limited to) Leroy Barnes, Kendrec McDade, J.R. Thomas, Paris Holloway, Rashad McCoy, and Chris Ballew. We want to imagine a city where community safety does not mean police violence. Please support the Community Bill of Rights for the City of Pasadena. It constitutes a call to action and courage and a first step towards addressing deeply-seeded racial inequities. We hope to establish a new paradigm about how police interact and relates to all residents while making sure that justice is served to blacks and Latinos to whom it has been denied for too long. It is a vision where more shared prosperity, inclusion, public health and education, is our collective aim.
