Imagine All Saints!

Imagination has been at the center of All Saints Church since 1882, when a dozen Episcopalians gathered in a Pasadena living room and imagined a new church into being. Over the last one hundred and forty years, imagination has continued to call All Saints to grow and change in response to both the challenges and opportunities of embracing its legacy as a beacon of love, justice and compassion.

Continuing that legacy of imagination is part of the work we have been given to do as members of the All Saints community. Standing on the shoulders of those who came before us, we too face both challenges and opportunities as we come together to live out the Gospel in our time as they did in theirs. And so beginning on October 8th, each and every member of the All Saints community will be invited to be part of Imagine All Saints — an opportunity to come together and share what they believe Jesus is calling us to do together, over the next three years.

Imagine All Saints listening sessions will be held online on Saturday, October 8th and in person at All Saints Church on October 9th. Everyone in the All Saints community is encouraged to participate in these open sessions. On October 15th, several online listening sessions have been reserved as safe spaces for groups of Black/African American, Latinix and Asian-Pacific Islander parishioners who feel better able to speak their truths with others who share their background or experience.

See the questions that will be discussed at the bottom of the page

Each open listening session will be 1 hour, supported by a facilitator and a notetaker. To provide sufficient time for everyone’s perspectives to be heard, each of the listening sessions will focus on a series of questions aligned to just two of our four core values. People wishing to speak to Joyful Spirituality and Radical Inclusion in one session may also join a session focused on Courageous Justice and Ethical Stewardship at another time. The full schedule of online and at-church listening sessions is below, with instructions for how to participate.

Saturday, October 8th online listening sessions: On Saturday, October 8th, everyone in the All Saints community is invited to join an Imagine All Saints listening session via Zoom. To do so, you must register below to receive a link to the session.

The goals coming out of this process will be reviewed by the congregation, and approved by the Vestry, serving as the basis for developing achievable plans and determining priorities for how we use our financial and human resources beginning in 2023.

See you at the listening sessions!

Imagine All Saints Listening Session Questions:
Joyful Spirituality and Radical Inclusion

Joyful Spirituality:
Question 1: What aspects of how we worship at All Saints do you value most? In terms of both how we do church at our regular Sunday services as well as all the other ways we worship at All Saints. What really stirs your heart in the way we worship?

Question 2: What, if anything, would you like to see done differently in our worship services? What would you like to have more of, less of, or something completely new that we’re not doing now?

Question 3: All Saints works in a number of ways to help people form meaningful relationships with other people in our diverse congregation. To help people engage deeply with each other, what do you think is working well now, and what else can we do to help people really connect and bridge differences?

Radical Inclusion:
Question 4: If at all, how would you like to see the congregation at All Saints change or grow to be more radically inclusive? In 3 years, what would be a good indicator that we were successful in evolving the congregation at All Saints in the ways you’d like to see?

Question 5: A radically inclusive culture is a culture of belonging, where anyone and everyone feels that they are an equally welcomed and equally valued. What do you think we are doing well now and what are some things All Saints could do more of, or do better, to realize our aspirations for a truly inclusive culture?

Imagine All Saints Listening Session Questions:
Courageous Justice and Ethical Stewardship

Courageous Justice:
Question 1. Obviously, All Saints cannot solve every problem, nor can we solve intractable problems alone. What might be new or better ways that All Saints could address the most pressing challenges, problems or issues that impact our region and our nation?

Question 2: What are some of the ways that All Saints works effectively with community organizations, and how might we expand or change our ways of working in collaborative partnerships going forward?

Question 3: Let’s focus on the ways we engage the congregation in doing courageous justice. What might be new ways that All Saints could connect church members to our ministries and other programs serving the community?

Ethical Stewardship:
Question 4:
Currently, much of All Saints’ income comes from church members. What things could All Saints do differently to ensure we have the financial resources necessary to expand our worship services and ministries into the future?

Question 5: How might All Saints change the way we use our church campus to advance our mission and values? For example, are there specific upgrades or additions that you think would be beneficial?

See you at the listening sessions! Thank you for your participation!
