Jazz Vespers, January 12: Russell Ferrante

Sunday, Jan. 12, 5:00 p.m. on the Chancel. All Saints Parishioner and founding member of the YellowJackets Russell Ferrante offers music. Russ’s first exposure to music came from his church, where his father was the choir director as well as being a frequent vocal soloist and having a vocal gospel quartet. He began piano lessons at 9 with the expectation that one day he would be the church pianist … but his musical interests took him elsewhere.

He will be joined by Steve Schaeffer on drums, Michael Valerio on bass, and vocalist Marilyn Scott.

Russ has performed with Jimmy Witherspoon, Jim Pepper, Joe Farrell, Joni Mitchell, Bobby McFerrin, Robben Ford, Al Jarreau, Marilyn Scott, Kevyn Lettau, Ernie Watts, Sadao Watanabe, GRP, Big Band, Lee Ritenour, Tom Scott, Take 6, Michael Franks, Eric Marienthal, and Brenda Russell. He currently teaches in the Jazz Studies Department at USC.

Mike Kinman offers a meditation. Admission is free. All are welcome. No reservations required. Validated parking is available at Plaza las Fuentes. Information = jazz@allsaints-pas.org. All Saints Church is at 132 N. Euclid Avenue, Pasadena 91101, directly across Euclid from Pasadena City Hall.
