We celebrate June as Pride Month in part because it commemorates the uprising of resistance of LGBTQ to police harassment and brutality at Stonewall in New York City — resistance that began here in Southern California with the Black Cat Raid and demonstrations in Silver Lake. We remember Stonewall as a breakthrough moment when we refused to accept humiliation and fear as the price of living fully, freely, and authentically.
We understand what it means to rise up and push back against a culture that tells us we are less than, that our lives don’t matter. And so this year it is more important than ever that we remember our history as we organize and mobilize to continue to change the future.
On Sunday, June 14 All Saints Church will celebrate LGBTQ Pride Sunday. The day begins at 10:00 a.m. with “From Generation to Generation: The Journey to Full Inclusion Continues” – a virtual Rector’s Forum featuring an archival interview with George Regas, Jim White and Tena Clark and a panel of young, queer members of ASC including Thomas Diaz, Hannah Earnshaw, Charis Graham and Kelly Erin O’Phelan.
The Forum is followed at 11:00 a..m with a Pride Themed Children’s Chapel — led by the inimitable Kelly Erin O’Phelan, our ASC Children’s Minister.
At our worship services we will welcome two gifted guest preachers: Broderick Greer, Canon Precentor at Saint John’s Cathedral in Denver, Colorado at 11:15 a.m. (English) and Sandra Martinez from St. Paul’s, Pomona at 1:00 p.m. (Spanish/English bilingual)
And we will have a “virtual Pride Parade” of photos of Pride Events Past as we celebrate our history and equip and empower each other to live into God’s future of love, justice, and compassion for absolutely everyone. Join us!
