Of ashes you came and to ashes you shall return. At the core of who we are is the energy that gives life to our body and mind. Every day our attention is moved and manipulated by the world around us and the world inside us. In a season of self-reflection we ask ourselves to examine the truths that we lean onto on a daily basis.
God says, “Let it go, you can live without it, remember? You are more than what you are made to believe.”
Can you hear the voice in the wilderness calling you into the unknown and unnamed? Can you hear the call to move outside of yourself, into awareness?
At this very moment, are you aware of the unlimited potential that lives inside of you? Our daily comforts set the narrative of what we believe we need in order to survive. It is God that calls us to transcend the fears and worry of the past and of the future. It is God that whispers her melody only in the present. Can you hear it?
Do you have enough attention to experience God’s transformative power and love, boiling up inside you? In Lent we proclaim “I am alive! God lives in me!” Not because of anything I did in the past or anything I will do in the future, but because her love song lives in me.
In the words of one of my favorite rappers Big Sean, “No matter how much they gon’ shade you, Man they can’t f*** with the light, that can’t stop the shine. Even if you take away my life, you can never take away the light.”
