All Saints Church Foster Care Project provides community education, public policy/advocacy and direct services for children and youth who have been removed from the care of their parents to the supervision of the state. The Project recruits and sustains volunteers who serve in public and private agencies to support youth at, for example, an urban runaway youth shelter We provide help to foster families throughout the year with grocery gift cards as well as collecting items for our Thanksgiving basket drive. We collect donations of diapers, infant clothing, child care accessories, and educational technology tools. We provide coach monitors to help families reunite with their children, host foster/adopt workshops and offer scholarships to foster youth in college. Our volunteers participate in virtual tutoring and gain longstanding relationships as mentors with youth living in care/support homes. We also work on special projects such as the Birthday Club, Back-to-School Shopping Spree and School Backpack drive. It goes without saying that each of the Foster Care Project’s endeavors are designed to enhance the lives of foster, homeless, transitional and incarcerated children and youth.

Check out this personal witness of Foster Care Project work:
Thomas Nolan is a social worker in Pasadena’s Department of Children and Family Services. He works with youth aging out of foster care, and as a caseworker who has been “adopted” by the Foster Care Project, he gets support for his clients. “The Foster Care Project has been a lifesaver in many ways,” Mr. Nolan observed. “The young people I work with have ongoing needs, such as supportive housing, strong connections to appropriate adults, better job opportunities, and further financial support for educational endeavors. A gift card for food or clothes, a Christmas present to let them know somebody cares about them, or a backpack full of school supplies to prepare them for the academic year means so much to these youth, who would otherwise not have these items. At times, the youth go hungry or have to choose between paying for food or new clothes. These youth are legally adults, but we know they are not fully independent. Without the generosity of the donations I receive, I honestly don’t know what I would do, and I don’t know what the youth would do. As I continue in the work, I know at times that I would not be able to do so without the support of All Saints Church.”

Join the Foster Care Project Birthday Club
Imagine being six years old and having a birthday that is just like any other day: no cards, no cake, no candles, no balloons, no presents, no special treat, no outing just for you. This too often is how a foster child experiences his or her birthday. On the average, a foster child experiences three to four moves during the course of his or her stay in the foster care system. With such constant upheaval, it isn’t surprising that a child’s birthday often gets lost in the shuffle. You can help make a difference.
Join the Foster Care Project Birthday Club and provide a birthday gift and card to one of these children, ages 1 to 19. (If you were a member of the Birthday Club before we closed for the pandemic, you will need to let us know you want to join again by contacting us at the inbox listed below.) Many of the children and youth in the Birthday Club are expected to be in foster care for several years, so if you continue in the Club, you can celebrate his or her birthday each year. If you’d like, you can also send small gifts and remembrances at any of the holidays and special times of the year – or not. It’s up to you. Gifts can be dropped off at our partner, First United Methodist Church, 500 E Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, 91101. Information = inbox@fostercareproject.org.
