It is almost impossible to miss. “It” is Spacenet … a new playground structure rising from the north lawn and an awesome new addition to the All Saints campus.
Months in the planning and development phase this outward and visible sign of our commitment to offer developmentally appropriate recreation space for all our children and youth is now off the drawing board and in its final implementation stages.
Updating our capacity to welcome, embrace and include all ages and generations of those seeking to be part of the adventure that is All Saints Church is an ongoing and evolving process. “Whoever you are and wherever you find yourself on the journey of faith there is a place for you at All Saints Church” has been our mantra for decades – and developing the north lawn into family friendly gathering and recreation space is but another manifestation of how we strive to give life to those words we say every time we gather.
Funding was allocated from resources previously designated by the vestry for playground improvement and a committee of parents, staff and vestry leadership chose the design.
Spacenet – designed for children ages 5-12 under adult supervision – joins the existing play structure already in place and will be followed by additional gathering space under shade covering … continuing to improve the north lawn as a space for both recreation and hospitality.
Children’s minister Kelly O’Phelan is beyond excited about seeing this long-planned addition taking form and shape … and imagines opportunities to use it not only as a place of recreation but a gathering space for outdoor Children’s Chapels. And Christine Hartman – chair of the CYF Vestry Committee and part of the planning team — sees it as an evangelism tool.
“One of the things I’m most excited about is how visible it is,” she said. “It sends a signal to the wider Pasadena community that All Saints is a place that welcomes and values families – and so I hope it will not only serve current members of our community but encourage those who may not have ever thought about All Saints to come check us out.”
Finally, everyone involved in this nearing-completion project heaped praise and thanks on long-time parishioner Eddie King who donated untold hours of labor and construction expertise. It has been a total team effort from start to finish … another example of All Saints in Action!
