A novena (from Latin: novem, “nine”) is an ancient tradition of devotional praying in Christianity, consisting of private or public prayers repeated for nine successive days. It has its origins in the nine days of prayer that the Apostles had after the ascension of Jesus, and honoring what Jesus asked of them before departing. While staying with them, he ordered them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father. “This,” he said, “is what you have heard from me.” (Acts 1:4)

We will be offering the opportunity to unite as a community in this traditional practice of prayer in preparation for the January 13th memorial service for Zelda as we give thanks for her life among us. Join us in the All Saints Chapel at 6:30 p.m. January 5 to January 12 for a bilingual service of prayer and meditation. All are welcome.

Novena en Honor a Zelda Kennedy

Una novena (del Latin: novem, “nueve”) es una tradición antigua de oración devocional del Cristianismo, que consiste en oraciones ya sea privadas o públicas repetidas por nueve días sucesivos. Se origina en los nueve días de oración que los Apóstoles tuvieran después de la ascención de Jesús, y honra lo que Jesús les pidiera hacer antes de partir. Cuando todavía estaba con ellos, les advirtió que no debían irse de Jerusalén, pero que esperaran ahí a que se cumpliera la promesa del Padre. “Esto”, les dijo, “es de lo cual yo les hablé.” (Hechos 1:4)

Unámonos en comunidad en esta práctica tradicional de oración en preparación para el memorial de Zelda el 13 de enero mientras continuamos dando gracias por su vida entre nosotros.
