“On Easter We Sing Alleluia” by Mike Kinman

We sing.

We sing in times of triumph and in times of tragedy.
We sing in times of fear and despair. We sing in times of hope and anticipation.

We sing not just alone. We sing together. We sing together because there is something about the power of song powerfully to bind us together and to lift us to the heavens.

We sing together because when we do, we realize that together we can create beauty that transcends what we can do alone.

There aren’t many places left where we can sing together. The occasional birthday party and the national anthem at sporting events. Concerts have become some of our most powerful liturgies because fans of an artist pack together in one space and sing so loud sometimes you can’t hear the performer.

And then there’s church. Church is one of the few places left where we come together and sing.
And we don’t just sing any song.
We sing songs of love and courage and justice.
We sing songs of radical inclusion and joyful welcome.
And this Sunday, we sum all of that up as together we sing:

Alleluia.

In the face of everything that tears us apart and drags us down. This Sunday, we will gather and with one voice we will sing Alleluia. We will come together and we will be lifted up. We will sing our song. And together our song will heal us. Together our song will sustain us. Together our song will remind us that we follow a God who meets us in the garden this morning and every morning and calls us by name.

Come together this Easter at All Saints. Come together and be part of the chorus. Invite friends. Invite people you haven’t seen in a while. Invite everyone you know.

Come together and sing.

Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.
