What is PACES?

PACES stands for Planning and Campus Enrichment Strategies. We are a task force charged by the Vestry with building a plan for maintaining and improving our facilities to create A Welcoming Campus, which is one of our Four Foundational Goals.

The four what?

The Four Foundational Goals! These are the parish-wide goals we are working toward over the next two years to pave the way for our future. The first of our Four Foundational Goals at All Saints is “We are welcoming: Provide  welcoming space for community life and ministry.” PACES is charged with developing a plan to make sure our facilities are accessible, hospitable, and environmentally sound — ready to welcome existing and new members and meet the needs of the parish and wider community for many years to come.

So…what does PACES actually do?

The Vestry has charged us with developing a Facilities Plan: recommendations for physical improvements to implement our Foundational Goal of Welcoming. We are also going to build a repeatable process for planning and executing campus improvements and maintenance that we can use each time we take a small step.

So you’re also recommending repairs?

Yep. We want to be good stewards of the facilities we’ve inherited to make sure they last for generations to come. That means taking care of what we have as we plan for the future. We are building a near-term plan for doing repairs, upgrades and retrofits of our existing facilities.

How is PACES structured?

PACES is comprised of six working groups.  Each group has a specialized area of focus, and all the groups work together toward the common goal of campus enrichment.  The working groups are listed below:

Core Team (including Mike Kinman and MaryAnn Ahart, our Senior Warden) – leads the work.

Space Planning and Visualization Working Group – responsible for gathering information about the church’s needs and developing facilities alternatives.

Giving and Finance Working Group – helps us integrate PACES into the overall ASC giving structure.

Deferred Maintenance and Operations Working Group – performs a thorough analysis of our facilities’ maintenance needs, and also helps us understand how changes in our facilities will decrease or increase our costs.

Communications and Engagement Working Group – our conduit to and from the Parish at large.

External Review Board – tasked with making sure we are keeping our eye on the ball and fully considering all important factors.

What will PACES produce?

The recommendations to the Vestry will include alternatives, timing and sequencing, priorities and approximate project budgets. We will also design a new planning process for the future.

Will this work be discussed with the parish?

Yes! Transparency is one of our core values. We welcome input and feedback, and will be actively involving and updating the All Saints community throughout the process. We welcome open discussion about the options being considered; we expect ideas to be challenged so we can move forward along the best path.

What happened to the money from the 2006 Capital Campaign?

Approximately $11 million was raised; $9 million was spent on development, architecture, design and planning. The detailed accounting of those expenditures will be available on the PACES website. The approximately $2 million that remains has been earmarked for future building projects in order to honor the intent of the original gifts. PACES will make recommendations to Vestry and the Finance Committee as to how to best use those funds to address our building needs.
