Rector’s Forum, January 26: 2020 Vision – Seeing the Future of Church and World

“Every time I turn around, the issue of money and class and the disparities comes up. And so we’re having to talk about that in real time at the level of governance. When we do our convention there are implications because people want to participate and it’s the class and money question that can be a barrier. So, we have a long way to go in that conversation, but I just think we’ll be more the church if we’re actually naming it and then taking the blinders off because, you know, when you’re in a bubble thinking ‘this doesn’t cost a lot of money’ or ‘of course we can do it’ or ‘let’s do it on this day, people aren’t working on this day’ — well, some people are working 24 hours a day just trying to put the basics on the table. So we have to know that, because ‘them’ is us.”
