On Monday, August 5 at 6pm Congressman Adam Schiff joins southland Interfaith leaders at All Saints Church for a Community Forum entitled “Countering White Supremacy” – an important and timely conversation exploring how we can combat bigotry and discrimination and promote pluralism, acceptance and freedom for all. Sponsored by All Saints, IKAR, the Islamic Center of Southern California and the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) organizers issued this joint statement: “We must move beyond words, thoughts & prayers and into action.”
“We need look no further than this weekend’s deadly shooting to know that White Supremacy kills,” said All Saints Rector Mike Kinman. “And it kills not only with the speed of an AK-47 but slowly through inequalities in opportunity, health care, education and more.”
“With a President whose words and policies embody White Supremacy and embolden those who would enforce it at the point of a gun, it is critically important that faith leaders come together across traditions and with our elected leaders to have action oriented conversations about changing the direction in which our nation is headed. All Saints Church has always been a place for conversations like that and we are honored to be hosting this important conversation this evening.”
Rep. Schiff is the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee which oversees intelligence agencies such as the FBI, CIA, DHS, and NSA. and is in a unique position to influence U.S. intelligence agencies to deal with all violent extremist groups consistently and treat white supremacists as a terrorist threat. Panelists will include Andre Henry, the Reverend Mike Kinman, Omar Ricci, the Reverend Susan Russell and Brooke Wirtschafter and will be moderated by Salam Al-Marayati.
Please note, this is a sold out event which will be live-streaming it at allsaints-pas.org/live-stream/.
