Spiritual Care in Electiontide 2020

We are now less than two weeks away from the end of an election cycle that seems to have gone on forever and is finally coming to a close. In addition to remaining focused on our civic duty to vote (visit our VOTE2020 page if you need any more information about voting!) we are also focused on tending to our spiritual needs in this time of heightened anxiety, hope and impending change.

Here are three resources — one from All Saints, one from the Diocese of Los Angeles and one from the Episcopal Church. Whoever you are and wherever your find yourself during this election cycle, we hope there is something here to feed your soul and give strength for the journey.

Diocesan Service of Prayer for Our Nation: Thursday, October 29 at 7:00 p.m.

As the election cycle comes to a close, the Diocese of Los Angeles will offer a liturgy of prayers for our nation. Hosted by St. John’s Cathedral, this virtual service will offer music, prayers and readings calling us to be agents of hope and healing as we live out our baptismal promise to strive for peace and justice. Bishop John Taylor will offer the reflection and participants will include Bishop Bruce, Canon McCarthy, Deans Kowalewski and Ade and leaders of UBE – the Union of Black Episcopalians. Music will be offered from St. Augustine’s, Santa Monica and Holy Faith, Inglewood.
The service will be live-streamed on the diocese’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/LADiocese
and YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCva0NDh1tfkDNXJxP1NlLfA

A National Service for Healing and Wholeness: Sunday, November 1 at 1:00 p.m.

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry will lead a live-streamed prayer service from Washington National Cathedral, Holding on to Hope: A National Service for Healing and Wholeness, on All Saints Sunday, November 1, at 4:00-5:30 p.m. EST. In the midst of pandemic, racial reckoning, and a historic election, the live-streamed service will gather Americans for prayer, song, lament, hope, and a call to love God and neighbor.
The service will be streamed here.
