“…[Jesus] says, ‘Be ready.’ He’s talking to people and it is written at a time where Christians or people who were Jewish who were following after Christ at this point in time — because there weren’t really Christians, but people who were following after Christ at this time — were feeling a little bit comfortable. And Jesus says, ‘In your comfortability don’t become a hypocrite.’ And I wonder this morning, are we the people like the audience in Luke, who have gotten so comfortable with our earthly trappings and accomplishments that we’ve begun to advocate from a distance? To turn a blind eye to poverty, to foster violence to the body through white supremacy, and violence to the soul by bad policy…?”
