Urban Walkers: Bungalow Courts in Pasadena
4:00 p.m. Meeting place TBD.
Pasadena is attributed as the birthplace of the bungalow court. Generally speaking, they are a cluster of small one-story individual houses surrounding a common landscaped courtyard. They were designed as rentals for those who could not yet afford to buy a house, or need to down-size as empty-nesters. They provided privacy as well as community. The bungalow courts date from 1909 through 1942 representing a wide variety of architectural styles. The largest concentration in Pasadena is to be found on South Marengo Avenue. On our two-mile walk (covering both sides of Marengo), we will see 12 Bungalow Courts, some recognized by “National Register of Historic Places.” This is an afternoon stroll, from Del Mar to Glenarm and back, with interesting sights and plenty of time for conversation. Urban Walkers invite you to join this walk! If interested in this walk or would like more information, contact Robb Grimm at rgrimm0320@gmail.com (reservation deadline December 4)

Facilitated by Dr. Charles Foster. Contact Dr. Foster at drcharlesfoster@icloud.com for Zoom access.
