This Sunday at All Saints: Sunday, September 10

Join us on Sunday, September 10, for a full and rich Sunday at All Saints Church! It is our Annual CYF Registration Day, and so much more is happening! The Rev. Jonathan Aitken, Church of England priest, preaches at both the 7:30 and 10:00 a.m. services. Coventry Choir soloists offer music at 10:00 a.m.

  • Jonathan William Patrick Aitken is a British author, Church of England priest, convicted criminal and former Conservative Party politician. Beginning his career in journalism, he was elected to Parliament in 1974 (serving until 1997), and was a member of the cabinet during John Major’s premiership from 1992 to 1995. That same year, he was accused by The Guardian of misdeeds conducted under his official government capacity. He sued the newspaper for libel in response, but the case collapsed, and he was subsequently found to have committed perjury during his trial. In 1999, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison, of which he served seven months. Following his imprisonment, Aitken became a Christian and later became the honorary president of Christian Solidarity Worldwide. He was ordained as an Anglican priest in 2019.

Our Featured Ministry this Sunday is Monday Night Meditation:
For the last 22 years, every Monday that the church is open, Monday Night Meditation has been a gathering point for people seeking to experience the Spirit in silence and fellowship, usually in the sanctuary chapel. It’s a wide open group that includes both long-time, practiced mediators and people just beginning to explore silent contemplation. Join us at our table on the lawn after the service for more information.

At 9:00 a.m. in Sweetland Hall, Our Summer Sundays Education, Formation & Fellowship Series Concludes: Connecting the All Saints & St. Barnabas Stories.
Join us for our final Summer Sundays offering: Connecting the All Saints & St. Barnabas Stories — an important conversation exploring the history of the relationship between All Saints Church and our neighboring congregation, St. Barnabas, Pasadena. We will examine All Saints’ participation in the systemic segregation of the Jim Crow era, including the story of how African Americans who were excluded from worshiping at All Saints Church planted St. Barnabas Church as an Episcopal mission in 1923. As we celebrate the decades of vibrant ministry of St. Barnabas Church, we also acknowledge All Saints’ complicity in the sin of racism which led to its founding and commit to continuing to be engaged in an ongoing process of self-examination and repentance. This conversation will be part of that process.

ALSO, it’s Summer Fun: Games on the Lawn following the 10:00 a.m. service!

The Forum at 9:00 a.m. is on Summer hiatus until October 8th.

Join Us for Children’s Chapel during the 10 a.m. service!
All Saints’ Children, Youth, and Families department hosts “Family Hour” for parents and children (kindergarten through fifth grade) on Sundays, 9:00-10:00 a.m. Parents are welcome to participate or drop children off. Join us for music, art, and fun! Let’s celebrate and connect! For information please contact Nina Scherer at nscherer@allsaints-pas.org.

Join Greeter Jenn McGaw in our Online Coffee Hour on Zoom following the 10:00 service.

From 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Forum, ICUJP 2023 Rev. George F. Regas Courageous Peacemaker Awards – Housing Is A Human Right:
Honorees include All Saints Church Pasadena’s Safe Haven Bridge to Housing, Anthony Manousos and Jill Shook, and the Jerusalem Legal Aid Center. The event will be hosted by PBS’s Bonnie Boswell.
All of this year’s George F. Regas Courageous Peacemakers Honorees have excelled in creating safe and protective spaces for the unhoused, and All Saints Episcopal Church Safe Haven Bridge to Housing is no exception:
When COVID-19 struck, the homeless shelters were required to reduce their population by 75%, displacing many unhoused persons onto the streets, with no place to sleep. In concert with All Saints’ values of Radical Inclusion and Courageous Justice, they created the Safe Haven Bridge to Housing. The program was developed in partnership with Union Station Homeless Services, and follows the “housing first” model of ameliorating the conditions of homelessness. Through the program, twelve individuals are provided with a safe, interim place to sleep and store essential items, until they can find permanent housing. Each participant is connected to a caseworker and housing advocate to gain access to medical, mental health, and other resources, as well as to navigate the process towards permanent sustained housing. Join us when we honor Safe Haven Bridge to Housing and other great programs working to end homelessness. To RSVP or donate, visit the ICUJP website here!

For in-person worship, our guiding principle remains to follow common sense risk reduction guidance for as long as we remain in a declared public health pandemic, so to keep our community safe and well, our in-person worship guidelines include:

  • (as of 1/30/23) Because Los Angeles County, including Pasadena, currently have low levels of COVID-19, masks are recommended, but not required, for everyone indoors.
  • Masks are optional outdoors.
  • Both outdoor and indoor seating is available for services and communion will be served in both locations.
  • Our expectation is that those entering the church will be vaccinated (if vaccination is available to them)
  • Those who choose to be unvaccinated are requested to participate online.
  • Those seated indoors are asked to maintain social distance between individuals/households.
  • If we reach seating capacity in the church, ushers will guide you to alternative seating areas.
  • We ask you not enter if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms: fever over 100.4°F or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, or if you have had contact in the last 14 days with someone diagnosed with or suspected to have COVID- 19.
