This Sunday at All Saints: Youth Sunday, May 21

This Sunday, May 21, is Youth Sunday! We Are Family this Sunday, so join All Saints Children, Youth, and Families for our annual youth-led services. After the 10 a.m. service, we’ll celebrate with a summer kick-off in Sweetland Hall, complete with tacos, cupcakes, and activities! Our celebration will wrap up with “coffee house” music performances by some of our youth members that will knock your flip-flops off. Everyone is welcome for fellowship, food, and fun. We are ALL family!

High School seniors Ava King and Morgan Lashley-Haynes will preach at both the 7:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. services. At 10:00 a.m. Trouvères youth choir will offer You Will Be Found, from Dear Evan Hanson, arr. by Huff and The Lord Bless You and Keep You by Rutter. ASL interpretation is offered at 10:00 a.m.

This Sunday we will again offer Children’s Chapel from 10:15-10:45 a.m. only ON ZOOM! There will be no Family Hour at 9:00 a.m. Instead, we will offer Children’s Chapel HERE on ZOOM at 10:15 a.m.! The Forum at 9:00 a.m. is on hiatus this week and will resume on Sunday, May 28th — AFTER the 10 a.m. service on the 28th!.

At 5:00 p.m. in the Church — May Jazz Vespers: Lemar Guillary
Professional trombonist Lemar Guillary hails from Los Angeles, California. Guillary joined his high school marching band at age fifteen in 1997. This subsequently led to a five year stint in the USC marching band. Lemar moved to New York City in 2006 and learned how to master his craft in the Jazz Studies program at The New School. Among the notable artists who Guillary has performed with are Robin Thicke, Busta Rhymes, Jennifer Hudson, Chaka Khan, Earth Wind & Fire, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, T-Pain, Rick Ross, and Postmodern Jukebox. In 2009 Lemar appeared on several television shows including: The Oprah Winfrey Show, Ellen, Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, Late Night with David Letterman, Good Morning America, Dick Clarks Rockin’ New Years Special, The Essence Festival, and Carson Daily. Lemar was recently invited to join the house band for the Maya Rudolph Show which is lead by Raphel Saadiq. Lemar, also a music-recording producer, produced tracks for upcoming R&B artist, Jesse Boykins. In August of 2010 Lemar opened his own music recording studio in Hollywood, CA where he works on projects with both experienced and up and coming musicians. 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. Interfaith Study Group – ” What Do Atheists Read When They Read the Bible?”
At the Islamic Center of Southern California 434 S Vermont Ave, Los Angeles.
Treating the Bible as literature rather than sacred scripture reveals a uniquely rich text. Does this approach challenge or deepen traditional–that is, faith-based–understanding? Dr. Carl Selkin is professor emeritus (English) from Cal State, LA, where he served as Dean of Arts and Letters for a dozen years. A member of the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center Social Justice Committee, he also serves on the ISG Planning Committee. Please bring an open heart and mind willing to listen and learn, and a vegetarian dish to share in our potluck. For in-person worship, our guiding principle remains to follow common sense risk reduction guidance for as long as we remain in a declared public health pandemic, so to keep our community safe and well, our in-person worship guidelines include:

  • (as of 1/30/23) Because Los Angeles County, including Pasadena, currently have low levels of COVID-19, masks are recommended, but not required, for everyone indoors.
  • Masks are optional outdoors.
  • Both outdoor and indoor seating is available for services and communion will be served in both locations.
  • Our expectation is that those entering the church will be vaccinated (if vaccination is available to them)
  • Those who choose to be unvaccinated are requested to participate online.
  • Those seated indoors are asked to maintain social distance between individuals/households.
  • If we reach seating capacity in the church, ushers will guide you to alternative seating areas.
  • We ask you not enter if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms: fever over 100.4°F or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, or if you have had contact in the last 14 days with someone diagnosed with or suspected to have COVID- 19.
