Update on Team All Saints and #MarchForOurLives

After weeks of organizing and mobilizing to participate in the National #MarchForOurLives the time has come to put our faith into action. On Thursday, March 22 “Team All Saints” headed east to join the hundreds of thousands who will be marching in our nation’s capitol as part of the #NeverAgain Movement to end gun violence in our nation.

Led by 13 members of the All Saints youth group — featured in this Episcopal News Service article — and 3 chaperones, they hit the ground running with lobby visits to the office of Congressional Representatives Judy Chu and Adam Schiff and will attend a prayer vigil (live streamed on You Tube) at the National Cathedral on March 23, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

During this weekend of action as we amplify the voices of our young leaders we’ve turned the All Saints Twitter feed over to members of our youth delegation. Follow @ASCpas on Twitter for live updates.

Meanwhile, here at home the local contingent of Team All Saints met on Friday, March 23 with Congresswoman Judy Chu in her district office … to thank her for her support for gun legislation that has earned her an “F” rating from the NRA … and deliver letters signed by some of her ASC constituents.

On Saturday, March 24 Team All Saints will take to the streets in both Washington DC and Los Angeles. Speakers at the 11:00 a.m. rally at City Hall here in L.A. will include our own Samuel Ankeny and Susan Russell … Samuel as one of the youth speakers and Susan as part of the Faith Coalition. Details on the L.A. March here  … we’ll be gathering at All Saints at 7:45 a.m. and leaving together for the Metro at 8:00 a.m.

If you’re planning to participate, consider using the hashtags #MarchEpiscopal and #episcoyouth to add our voices to the aggregate social media voice of our wider Episcopal Church community.

And on Palm Sunday, bring your march signs to wave along with the palms. In the words of our Rector Mike Kinman “Palm Sunday is the day we not only begin our Holy Week journey to the cross and beyond but also remember that this journey began in the streets with a protest. With Jesus marching to the heart of power and preaching his message of love.”
