Vestry Notes: April 10, 2018

The Vestry of All Saints Church met on Tuesday evening, April 10th. In addition to the regular agenda items of reports from committees and task forces, vestry action items included:

  • Welcoming Gloria Pitzer to fill the unexpired term of Chris Caldwell*;
  • Unanimously and enthusiastically endorsing Antonio Gallardo and Lauren Grubaugh for ordination to the diaconate and Tim Hartley as a postulant for Holy Orders;
  • Establishing a standing personnel committee of the vestry;
  • A first reading of a policy declaring All Saints’ campus a gun-free zone;
  • Bidding a fond farewell to retiring vestry members: Karen Alexander, Lorenzo Bacani, Hannah Berry, Liza Billington, Andy Malloy, Frank Ramirez and Jeff Vanderpool;
  • And offering appreciation for the work of wardens Dana Jones and Trula Worthy-Clayton.

Rector Mike Kinman also announced that Bishop John Taylor will join us for a conversation about mission and ministry in the Diocese of Los Angeles at the June 5th meeting of the vestry. And Susan Russell encouraged all to “save the dates” for the upcoming ordinations: Saturday, June 2nd at St. John’s Cathedral for Antonio Gallardo and Saturday, July 21st here at All Saints for Lauren Grubaugh.

As always, visitors are welcome at vestry meetings and the gallery was overflowing with visitors including incoming vestry members and members of Tim Hartley’s lay discernment committee.

The next meeting of the vestry is Tuesday, May 8th at 7pm in Sweetland Hall.

* Gloria joins Cathy Keig who responded to the vestry’s call last month to serve the unexpired term of Charlie Rahilly. We are grateful to both Chris and Charlie for their leadership on the vestry and for their continued commitment to the mission and ministry of All Saints.
