Rector’s Forum @ 10:00 a.m., June 6, 2021: We’re Not Going Back to What We Had; We’re Not the Same People We Were

Rabbi Sharon Brous joins Mike Kinman in the Rector’s Forum on Sunday, June 6, 2021. Sharon is a long-time interfaith partner of All Saints Church, and a leading voice in reanimating religious life in America, working to develop a spiritual roadmap for soulful, multi-faith justice work. She is the senior and founding rabbi of IKAR (“essence” in Hebrew), a Jewish community that launched in 2004 to reinvigorate Jewish practice and inspire people of faith to reclaim a moral and prophetic voice. IKAR quickly became one of the most influential Jewish congregations in the country, and is credited with sparking a rethinking of religious life in a time of unprecedented disaffection and declining affiliation.

“What most American Jews desire is to see Israelis and Palestinians living in dignity, in a just and equitable society,” said Rabbi Sharon Brous, the leader of IKAR, a large progressive synagogue in Los Angeles. “It is imperative that we support a third way,” she said, “recognizing the generational trauma and suffering of both peoples and creating a just and shared future for everyone.”   ~ New York Times

“For independence is a myth … but liberation is not. Independence is a myth … but freedom is not. For these things … liberation … freedom … we find them together. We not only need each other … we are meant for each other.”

“Porque la independencia es un mito… pero la liberación no lo es. La independencia es un mito … pero la libertad no lo es. Por estas cosas…la  liberación…la  libertad… las encontramos juntas.  No solo nos necesitamos los unos a los otros… estamos destinados el uno para el otro.”
