Rector’s Forum @ 10:00 a.m., May 2, 2021: Climate Change: What’s Working?

We know the climate crisis is real, and we know we need to make drastic changes. But … what’s working right now? Where can we find hope? We welcome to the Forum Alyssa Mann, the Coastal Project Director of The Nature Conservancy. Alyssa shares not only the issues with and impact of climate change in our region but what TNC is doing to mitigate the impacts and heal the earth. To tell us … what’s working … and how we can be a part of it!

Sermon @ 11:15 a.m., May 2, 2021: Thank You for Your Courage

“Coming to a faith community for the first time can be incredibly intimidating, especially if you are coming by yourself, especially if you have tried before and been wounded., especially if healing and love is what you are looking for … so much so that you are willing to risk making yourself vulnerable in hopes that you might find it…. Churches, synagogues, temples, communities that historically have been looked to to define righteousness and morality, who God is and on whom God smiles have a track record with that sacred trust of people’s hearts, lives and identity that is uneven at best and horrific at worst.  James Cone wrote, ‘The cross can heal and hurt; it can be empowering and liberating but also enslaving and oppressive.’ … and so it is with the church… And when you walk into a community of faith, or even if you’ve been part of one for a long time, it truly can be like a game of Russian Roulette where far more of the chambers are full than we like to admit.”

Sermon @ 1:00 p.m., May 2, 2021: Liberated by Love to Do Justice

“To know Jesus to be the way, the truth, and the life, and to steadfastly follow his steps in the way that leads to eternal life – to be people of the resurrection – is to work to make God’s love tangible whenever and wherever we can. And it is to work to dismantle whatever is getting in the way of that love – that justice – in this beautiful and broken world.”
