Dear Ones,

I want to tell you about the final 2021 budget, which was approved by your Vestry last night. Creating this budget has been both tremendously challenging and a labor of love for those involved. I am deeply grateful to our Wardens, Finance Committee, and Vestry for this remarkable work. Throughout the entire process, they kept bringing us back to our core values of Radical Inclusion, Courageous Justice, Joyful Spirituality, and Ethical Stewardship, which is why the final produce is so faithful to who we are and who we are called to be.

You will recall that in early September we published a draft 2021 budget – reflecting the incredible work of the Wardens’ Planning Task Force and subsequently the Vestry’s plan to restructure All Saints for 2021. That draft budget had a deficit of $122,000. The most important thing I want to tell you today is that we closed that gap, and the final 2021 budget is balanced – and without any carryover from 2020. This is so very significant, and I want you to know that your generosity – your deep commitment, your understanding of the need, and your remarkable response to our message – is the reason we could accomplish this. We will live within our means in 2021 – and hopefully every year after that, relying on your continued and visionary support.

There are three other key things I want you to know about the 2021 budget.

• As you know, the search is open for one additional Associate Rector. Initially we projected that this person would be on board by July 1, and the draft budget reflected that assumption. It turns out, however, that like everything else during a pandemic, this will probably take a little longer. So, we revised our plan and now assume a fourth priest will join us no sooner than August 1.
  
  • We received two anonymous gifts – in addition to the donors’ generous pledges – restricted to support the Adult Music Program in 2021 and to be used at the discretion of the Director of Music, Weicheng Zhao. These gifts essentially restore the Music budget to its 2020 level, but we assume they are one-time contributions and will plan accordingly for 2022.
  
  • Over the last several years, the Vestry has approved a withdrawal from All Saints’ quasiendowment fund to underwrite the cost of a chamber orchestra for All Saints Day. Of course, we were not together this past All Saints Day, so that allocation was not made. So, the Vestry has approved an allocation from quasi-endowment for music in 2021 – $5,000 for the youth music program and $5,000 for the adult music program. Beginning with the 2022 budget, if there are going to be orchestras, those costs will be in the operating budget.

Me complace compartir con ustedes esta noticia sobre el presupuesto final del 2021, que fue aprobado por su Junta Parroquial anoche. Crear este presupuesto ha sido tremendamente difícil y ha sido también un trabajo de amor por los involucrados. Estoy profundamente agradecido a nuestros Guardianes, al Comité de Finanzas y a la Junta Parroquial por esta notable labor. Hay otras tres cosas clave que debe saber sobre el presupuesto del 2021.

• Como usted sabe, la búsqueda está abierta para un Rector Asociado adicional. Inicialmente proyectamos que esta persona estaría trabajando para antes del 1 de julio, y el proyecto de presupuesto reflejaba esa suposición.
