In response to the House bill blocking patients from receiving care at Planned Parenthood — a direct assault on the health and rights of millions – the Reverend Mike Kinman issued the following statement:
“Once again, Planned Parenthood is under attack. Once again, our elected leaders are using the health of low- and no-income women as a political tool to score points with their constituents and advance a public policy agenda aimed at turning back the clock generations if not centuries.
I have lost count of the number of times I have had to make a statement like this in favor of Planned Parenthood. It is tiring and tiresome. But not nearly as tiring and tiresome as it is just to live as one of the women that Planned Parenthood serves so incredibly well. To live with not just your healthcare but your personhood continually under attack. To live with a bunch of wealthy men presuming to stand in judgment over your body and the decisions you make for it. To have to continually fight if not beg for healthcare that should be a basic human right in a decent and civilized society.
So as long as these attacks continue, All Saints Church will stand up, and I will stand up for Planned Parenthood. And to all who want to take away this instrument of basic human rights and decency, we will say, once again, not on our watch.”
Mike Kinman is the rector of All Saints Church in Pasadena – a church that has been prayerfully pro-choice since 1989. Clergy and members of All Saints Church will stand with Planned Parenthood supporters across the country as we gather at Representative Judy Chu’s offices Tuesday, March 7 at 5:30 p.m. [527 South Lake Avenue, Pasadena] to raise awareness about the impact of this bill and to mobilize going forward.
