Group: Lent Offering 2026: Statecraft as Soulcraft: A Socratic Journey
A six-week Lenten Zoom series meeting on Thursday evenings from February 19th through March 26th centered on selected readings from Plato’s Republic and one film for discussion.
Though pre-Christian, Plato profoundly shaped Christian thinkers such as Augustine and Boethius, whose works have been the focus of previous All Saints Lenten studies. The Republic offers a rich framework for Lenten reflection by linking the formation of the soul with the health of society, using vivid stories like the Allegory of the Cave and the Ring of Gyges to explore justice, desire, power, and hope.
Both philosophical and spiritually resonant, the series invites participants into thoughtful, guided conversation about moral integrity, public life, and what it means to align oneself with the deeper moral order of the world in a time of social and political strain.
