Cornerstone Sunday: The Centennial Journey Begins, October 8

Our Centennial Journey: Engaging Our Past, Growing into God’s Future — a year of commemoration, reflection and celebration – will launch on Cornerstone Sunday, October 8th, as All Saints Church marks the centennial of the laying of the cornerstone for its iconic church building at 132 North Euclid in Pasadena.

The current church is the third building to serve the congregation since its founding in 1883, and marking the building’s 100th birthday is an opportunity for parish members to both engage in the past and imagine the future as a faith community committed to living out God’s love, justice and compassion in the world. Join us as we launch this year-long series of opportunities to dig more deeply into the history of All Saints: both for the sake of understanding more about our past and for preparing ourselves to grow into God’s future.

Sunday, October 8 – Commemoration: The journey begins with Cornerstone Sunday, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone for the current church building. Activities will include a 9:00 a.m. Centennial Conversation in the Guild Room, with Centennial co-chair Nancy Naecker and the Centennial Committee leading the audience in a lively conversation, with a slide show of archival photos and the chance to add your own commemoration notes to the All Saints timeline. (Donuts will be served!) Our festive 10:00 a.m. service will include historic pieces from the 1923 liturgy and a sermon by rector Mike Kinman. Following the service, activities on the lawn include music through the decades, a centennial scavenger hunt (with prizes!) and Cornerstone Cookies for all.

Sunday, October 15 – Reflection: Join us in the Guild Room at 9:00 a.m. for the second in our series of Centennial Conversations reflecting on the many stories that make up the All Saints Story and the plans we have to tell, re-tell and explore those stories in the year ahead. From the “Telling the Whole Story” initiative to a year-long narrative history project to opportunities to tell your own stories of how and where All Saints Church as been part of your story it will be a rich opportunity to learn from and with each other.

Sunday, October 22 – Celebration: The third in our three-part Centennial Conversations series will be a walk down memory lane of moments to remember in the 100 years of mission and ministry here at 132 North Euclid. From Press Conferences to Christmas Pageants, from hosting nationally and internationally known speakers to raising up home grown heroes there is so much to celebrate as we remember with gratitude those shoulders on which we stand as custodians of the All Saints story. Come and revisit events you remember, learn about some you don’t and be ready to add your own celebrations to the conversation.

Events will continue throughout the year – culminating with a blowout Centennial Celebration in September 2024. Much more to follow!
