9:00 a.m. – Faith, Formation and Fellowship: L.A. Voice
9:00 a.m. in the Guild Room. As the Eaton Fire has altered our communal landscape, L.A. Voice has been researching and identifying ways to show up for fire victims on the level of public advocacy. Join Mark Chase and members of L.A. Voice as we discuss how to hold our elected officials accountable to providing the economic safety measures desperately needed in these perilous times. Gather with us for inspiration, formation and fellowship. All are welcome as we connect, reflect and explore together. In person or online.
10:00 a.m. Worship – Tim Rich will preach. Canterbury Choir offers Yesu Wainyanza, a Luhya Spiritual arranged by Okuku. Follow the service with the service leaflet here (to be posted Saturday).
Join our Online Coffee Hour following the 10 a.m. service with greeter Jenn McGaw.
5:00 p.m. Jazz Vespers with the John Clayton Trio
Arranger and Producer, John Clayton is a busy man. He is a Grammy© winner with nine additional nominations and has written and/or recorded with artists such as Milt Jackson, Diana Krall, Paul McCartney, Regina Carter, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Gladys Knight, Queen Latifah, McCoy Tyner, YoYo Ma and Charles Aznavour, to name only a few. It is John’s arrangement of the “Star Spangled Banner” that helped propel Whitney Houston in her 1990 performance at the Super Bowl (the recording went platinum). John feels “I’ve been guided by a village of musicians who helped me understand the humility that goes along with playing music at the highest level you can. Ray Brown used to tell me to ‘Learn how to play the bass!!’ Just take care of the music and it will take care of you.” Gerald Clayton, son of John Clayton, honors the legacy of his father and all his musical ancestors through a commitment to artistic exploration, innovation, and reinvention. John and Gerald will be joined by vocalist Valerie Monroe.
