Every week at All Saints Church we put our faith into action. This week we are asking our members of the California State Senate to support the Ballot Disclose Act, AB 1416.
The Ballot Disclose Act addresses the distorting influence of moneyed interests on our initiative process. Wealthy interests have a huge unfair advantage on ballot measures, spending tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars on deceptive ads that often mislead voters about who really supports or opposes initiatives. Non-profit organizations that Californians trust often don’t have nearly as much funding to let voters know the truth.
Although ballot measures can drastically change our lives for decades, many voters aren’t able to take the time to research who’s really for or against each measure — but they are always exposed to Big Money’s deluge of often misleading ads. As a result, public interest initiatives supported by organizations that people trust are defeated, and bad initiatives that trusted organizations oppose (because they only benefit wealthy interests) win. This harms us all.
The Ballot Disclose Act (AB 1416) addresses the problem by adding a short list of who really supports and opposes ballot measures where it’s accessible to ALL — right on the ballot itself and it recently passed the Assembly. We now want to urge our members of the California State Senate to support it.
Please send a letter to your California State Senator urging them to support the Ballot Disclose Act.
You can also send a letter thanking your member of the California State Assembly if they voted for the Ballot Disclose Act. California Assembly Members’ Votes On the Disclose Act
