Videos: Holy Week, April 1 ~ April 3, 2021

Sermon @ Maundy Thursday, 6:30 p.m., April 1, 2021: Where Do You Want to Eat? / ¿Dónde quieres comer?

“Christ is still at this table … and now we know that Christ was never only at this table. There are tables in our homes. In our streets. In the wilderness. There is no place on earth that Christ cannot and has not laid a table…. As we come back together, I hope we not only can come back together here. I hope we can come together where you are right now. And show each other the tables that Christ has set in our midst.”

Sermon by Mike Kinman from virtual worship at 6:30 p.m. on Maundy Thursday, April 1, 2021 at All Saints Church, Pasadena.

Sermon 2 @ Good Friday Noon Service, April 2, 2021: Save Us from the Sin of Loving Religion Instead of Jesus

“Loving religion instead of Jesus has been one of the ways the church has denied Jesus over and over and over again as surely as Peter denied Jesus in the courtyard of the high priest as the cock crowed the third time … and in this time of COVID-19 we have instead chosen to re-imagine religion because of Jesus.”

Sermon 4 @ Good Friday Noon Service, April 2, 2021: Forgive Them

“If forgiveness truly is nothing but the empty shell that demands everything of the victim but nothing of the perpetrator. If forgiveness truly is nothing but the swallowing of the pain and the suppressing of the truth, then it is certainly worthy of discarding. And yet, if we take forgiveness away from justice, all that is left is vengeance.  And more and more, that is the choice that is set before us. Forgiveness without accountability …or vengeance without grace. And each is soul-killing in its dehumanization for victim and perpetrator; for judge, jury and accused. And so, we return to that core question of the cross … what would Jesus do … and in fact what is Jesus doing when he says these words? What is the justice of God? It cannot be either option. For the justice of God, the way of the cross, is not mimicking the cross in either its suppression of truth through fear …or vengeance which we anoint ourselves to execute on God’s behalf. The justice of God, the holiness of God demands both accountability and mercy, reparation and forgiveness.”

Sermon by Mike Kinman from the Noon Service on Good Friday, April 2, 2021 at All Saints Church, Pasadena. Reading: Luke 23:26–43. Read the sermon text here.
